Research on Migrant Children’s Educational Choices and Fiscal Policy: Hui Zhang Research on Migrant Children’s Educational Choices and Fiscal Policy
Hui Zhang
R1,262 Discovery Miles 12 620 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Drawing from global insights and the education supply and demand theory, this book investigates migrant children’s education in China, as well as the educational financial policies, which serves as both a background and possible solutions. From a comparative perspective, the education fiscal policies regarding issues with migrant/immigrant students and inequality in the United States and Europe were first examined, before comprehensive theoretical framework is constructed to evaluate the government and public schools’ input and migrant children’s educational demand in China. Their school choices, academic performances, educational choices and impact factors from the perspectives of class, gender, society and family are then discussed in depth. By tracing back to previous fiscal policies regarding migrant children in China and local policies in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, the author further interrogates the existing challenges, possible strategies and solutions. This book will appeal to scholars of education economics, education policy, educational equality and those who're generally interested in Chinese education and society.

Ageing and Effecting Long-term Care in China: Sabrina Ching Yuen Luk, Hui Zhang, Peter Pok-Man Yuen Ageing and Effecting Long-term Care in China
Sabrina Ching Yuen Luk, Hui Zhang, Peter Pok-Man Yuen
R1,293 Discovery Miles 12 930 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Recognizing rapidly ageing population is one key concern faced by cities and the challenge it would present to healthcare system, this book looks at ageing in China’s population as well as the delivery and financing of long-term care (LTC) in China. The book compares key features of long-term care insurance (LTCI) schemes in 15 pilot cities and evaluates the sustainability of various financing models adopted by the cities in the LTCI schemes. The book uses an interpretive case study approach to give an in-depth look into the LTC models in three pilot cities – Qingdao, Nantong, and Shanghai. The three cities represent three different models of financing and delivering LTC. To assess how effective the LTC models in these three cities are, the book uses five criteria, including utilization of medical resources, cost, equity, quality of care and sustainability. Also, the authors discuss how the financing and delivery of LTC can be improved in China, the impact of the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on older adults in need of LTC in the country and the implications of China’s LTCI reform for other countries. The book will be a useful reference to scholars and policy-makers who look at urban ageing and healthcare costs and delivery.

Hui Zhang; Translated by Ruoxi Li; Yuxuan Tang, Tian Yi
R3,593 Discovery Miles 35 930 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book is devoted to quantify the role of the world's major economies in the international division from the perspective of global value chains and clarify the value cycle system between China and developed and developing economies. This book establishes a theoretical paradigm that conforms to the current world economic structure. That is, the world economic structure gradually shifts from a single-cycle model centered on developed countries to a more complex dual-circulation model. Furthermore, based on the analysis of the current world economic situation, it also analyzes the interaction between trade and investment and the synergistic effect of the Corridors under the Belt and Road Initiative. The first part of the book brings a better understanding of mutual relationships between trade and investment under the Belt and Road Initiative and broadens the research fields of relevant studies. Additionally, comprehensive and specific country research is particularly conducted in this book. By analyzing the economic indicators, reviewing social history and social-economic development, covering various countries along the Belt and Road, it provides deep exploration of the fields and approaches of the most potential cooperation under the purpose of "Peace, Development, Cooperation and Win-Win." Therefore, this part draws a broad map of economic and cultures in order to provide a reference and assistance for promoting the Belt and Road Initiative. Fulfilling this vision, this book hopes to deepen the understanding of economic development of each relevant economy to encourage the participation of economies in regional connectivity.

Therefore, the book also discusses how China balances its own development process among different domestic regions, and how the Initiative fits into the changes of global economic system and brings positive change for developing and developed economies involved, on the long haul. Furthermore, this book aims to find out precise direction of the initiative in order to assess appropriate implication on development under current globalization and provide valuable experience for future economic synergetic development by reviewing the past cooperative experience as references for policy-making and prospective engagementIn terms of methodology, analyses were conducted applying multi-methods with best available evidence to enrich the understanding of the potential of the BRI in terms of socio-economic impact on cooperation and difference and similarities of economic, cultural characteristics and political system among countries.

Dynamics of Magnetically Trapped Particles - Foundations of the Physics of Radiation Belts and Space Plasmas (Paperback,... Dynamics of Magnetically Trapped Particles - Foundations of the Physics of Radiation Belts and Space Plasmas (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 2nd ed. 2014)
Juan G. Roederer, Hui Zhang
R4,831 Discovery Miles 48 310 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book is a new edition of Roederer's classic Dynamics of Geomagnetically Trapped Radiation, updated and considerably expanded. The main objective is to describe the dynamic properties of magnetically trapped particles in planetary radiation belts and plasmas and explain the physical processes involved from the theoretical point of view. The approach is to examine in detail the orbital and adiabatic motion of individual particles in typical configurations of magnetic and electric fields in the magnetosphere and, from there, derive basic features of the particles' collective "macroscopic" behavior in general planetary environments. Emphasis is not on the "what" but on the "why" of particle phenomena in near-earth space, providing a solid and clear understanding of the principal basic physical mechanisms and dynamic processes involved. The book will also serve as an introduction to general space plasma physics, with abundant basic examples to illustrate and explain the physical origin of different types of plasma current systems and their self-organizing character via the magnetic field. The ultimate aim is to help both graduate students and interested scientists to successfully face the theoretical and experimental challenges lying ahead in space physics in view of recent and upcoming satellite missions and an expected wealth of data on radiation belts and plasmas.

Repetitive Project Scheduling: Theory and Methods (Paperback): Li-Hui Zhang Repetitive Project Scheduling: Theory and Methods (Paperback)
Li-Hui Zhang
R1,233 R1,159 Discovery Miles 11 590 Save R74 (6%) Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Repetitive Project Scheduling: Theory and Methods is the first book to comprehensively, and systematically, review new methods for scheduling repetitive projects that have been developed in response to the weaknesses of the most popular method for project scheduling, the Critical Path Method (CPM). As projects with significant levels of repetitive scheduling are common in construction and engineering, especially construction of buildings with multiple stories, highways, tunnels, pipelines, power distribution networks, and so on, the book fills a much needed gap, introducing the main repetitive project scheduling methods, both comprehensively and systematically. Users will find valuable information on core methodologies, including how to identify the controlling path and controlling segment, how to convert RSM to a network model, and examples based on practical scheduling problems.

Cancer of the Liver, Esophagus, and Nasopharynx (Paperback): Gustav Wagner, You-Hui Zhang Cancer of the Liver, Esophagus, and Nasopharynx (Paperback)
Gustav Wagner, You-Hui Zhang
R2,950 Discovery Miles 29 500 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

To stimulate greater German-Chinese cooperation in the field of oncology, the Ger man Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) carried through a "Chinese-German Sympo sium on Cancer of the Liver, the Esophagus, and the Nasopharynx" in Heidelberg from 3 to 5 July 1985. These three forms of cancer were chosen as they are extremely rare in Europe but some of the most frequently found forms in China. Almost half of the roughly 260000 cases of primary liver cancer occurring annually worldwide are Chinese; of the roughly 300000 esophagus cancers occurring annually, more than half are Chinese; nasopharyngeal cancer is roughly 100 times more frequent among Chinese people than in Caucasians. Under these circumstances, it is not surprising that the Chinese guest speakers of the Heidelberg symposium - selected specialists in the three subsections of oncolo gy mentioned - were able to report about extensive experiences with patient popu lations of a size hardly imaginable in Europe. The great clinical experience of the Chinese guests was supplemented by special contributions of European experts. Thus, this volume permits a topical survey of the state of the art in these three can cers, with subsections of epidemiology, pathology, and clinical treatment. The editors wish to thank the Federal Ministry of Research and Technology (BMFT) for their encouragement and direct help in preparing and carrying through the symposium, the Management Board of the DKFZ for their generous assistance and Springer-Verlag for the publication and excellent production of this volume."

R3,030 Discovery Miles 30 300 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book mainly addresses China's Belt and Road Initiative in terms of the connectivity industrial and spatial development, as well as current world's economic and trade pattern under such synergy development, and focuses on the function and mechanism of industry and geography coordination. Although current research on the value circulation between China and developed economies is relatively adequate, the book focuses on the value circulation between the countries and regions, especially the developing economies. China and other developing countries tie strongly with the production value circulation. The coordination industrial and spatial development in the global value cycle is also the cornerstone of long-term stabilization and sustainable development in China. Therefore, this book provides the theoretical and empirical research on Belt and Road from the perspectives on industrial and spatial synergy. This book proposes several questions: Any inherent inlay between industrial and geographic allocation, i.e., is there any possibility for close integration? This book analyzes the necessity of coordinated development of industry and space perspective of production division. Secondly, from the perspective of historical evolution and current situation, it analyzes the relationship among industry, economic growth and fluctuation and compares realizing paths of synergy of industrial and spatial development. It contains the industry and spatial diffusion mechanism and the effect of synergy development. Moreover, the corresponding policy implication is provided for sustainable development through the Belt and Road Initiative.
